Spaccanapoli
The lower decuman, vulgarly called Spaccanapoli, is an artery road of the historical center of Naples and is one of the most important streets of the city.
It is set to decuman and Decumano Maggiore (decumani Naples), one of the three main streets of the urban plan designed in Greek and that crossed across their length the ancient Neapolis.
Given the source, it would therefore be more appropriate to speak of plateia and not “decumanus”, name of the Roman era which by convention has replaced the original.
The lower decuman became between the Middle Ages and the nineteenth century is important for the convents of religious orders for both homes of powerful men who lived there.
